We learned how coffee fights redness and swelling on the skin and also protects the skin from early wrinkles and we wanted to share it with you.
As you know, coffee gives us energy, maintains the tone of the cardiovascular system, accelerates metabolism. But should coffee lovers worry about their skin and look for an alternative to their favorite beverage? Let's look at how drinking coffee affects our skin and what can be done with it to maintain youth.
What ingredients in coffee are good for the skin?
antioxidants
Antioxidants are the enemy of early wrinkles! And coffee has a lot of it: Tannins, phenolic compounds with tannins, chlorogenic, caffeic and ferulic acids. Only 2-3 cups of coffee beans meet the body's daily antioxidant needs. Therefore, coffee lovers are protected from free radical oxidation that damages proteins, cell walls and DNA molecules.
Caffeine
Caffeine improves blood circulation, which is important for glowing skin! In addition, it removes excess fluid from the body and allows us to get rid of puffiness and bags under the eyes in the morning. However, this feature is fraught with danger: dehydration is especially harmful to the skin. So, if you're generally low on fluids throughout the day, drink a glass of water after every cup of coffee, just in case. Moisturizing creams and gels will also help prevent moisture loss from the skin.
Polyphenols
These phytochemicals (flavonoids, lignans, phenolic acids) are able to improve the intestinal microflora, and the beauty of the skin, as you know, largely depends on the quality of the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Another beneficial property of polyphenols is their ability to protect against UV radiation and prevent damage caused by ultraviolet rays.
eugenol
Thanks to this substance, coffee has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. It is believed that Eugenol can reduce the risk of melanoma.
Chinese scientists have been conducting research on the effect of coffee on the skin since 1989 and concluded that coffee drinkers are less likely to develop rosacea (a chronic disease characterized by skin redness and swelling and dilation of the superficial veins). The results of the study were published in Jama Dermatology. They say that only coffee can prevent rosacea, as the same ingredients in tea or chocolate don't give the same effect. For example, those who drank four cups of coffee a day had a 23% lower risk of developing rosacea compared to those who drank the same amount of coffee, but within one month.
If coffee isn't just for drinking, how else can it be useful?
Coffee will serve as an excellent cosmetic product for you. Caffeine can be found in serums, scrubs, masks. It easily copes with the removal of puffiness around the eyes and removes dark circles, reduces puffiness, significantly improves the complexion.
And coffee for external use:
improves blood flow by dilating blood vessels under the skin;
thanks to the antioxidants it contains, it has a soothing effect on the skin;
can remove redness, fine wrinkles and age spots;
reduces hyperpigmentation, as it contains chlorogenic acid;
Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it fights skin rashes.
Homemade coffee masks are very popular, easy to make and effective: they improve skin tone, improve complexion and relieve dryness. The main rule is that you should use natural coffee.
Coffee mask for problem skin;
Mix one tablespoon of coffee grounds with the same amount of blue or white clay. If there is no individual intolerance or allergy, you can add a teaspoon of crushed orange peel. Then pour a little boiled water into the mixture: you should get the consistency of thick sour cream. Then extinguish a pinch of baking soda with apple cider vinegar and add to the other ingredients. Apply this mask on cleansed face, wait for 5-7 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Refreshing coffee mask;
Powder a few walnut kernels, then mix them with a few tablespoons of coffee grounds. Spread the mixture on clean, damp facial skin in circular motions and leave it for 8-10 minutes, then rinse. This mask will be your lifesaver before a party or important meeting: it instantly heals the skin and hides signs of fatigue.
Coffee ice cubes;
Pour brewed strong coffee into ice molds, send to the freezer. Wipe the face and décolleté area with the coffee cubes obtained in the morning. This will help restore skin tone and smooth out small facial wrinkles.
Purifying mask;
Take the same amount of olive oil and ground coffee, mix, add a pinch of ground cinnamon and salt. Apply the resulting mask with light circular movements on the cleansed face, hold for 7-10 minutes, rinse with warm water. The mask perfectly opens and cleans the pores of the skin.
